Lumbar disc herniation
A herniated disc is the exit of part of the interior of an intervertebral disc (nucleus pulposus) through its outer envelope (fibrous ring). Its clinical manifestation, in the lumbar region, is most often sciatica (L5 or S1 roots) or cruralgia (L3 or L4 roots). When it is median, it can manifest as lower back pain as the only symptom. Its treatment is initially conservative, then in case of failure, infiltrations or possibly an operation are considered.
